About the BPC Deal

On Jan 30, 2020 BPC announced a plan to drill by April 2020 and is seeking the required approval to start. The project timeline has been impacted by coronavirus and the estimated drill date is now expected to be in Fall 2020.

Bahamas Petroleum Company (BPC) has five licenses for offshore oil exploration covering approximately 4 million acres in waters around The Bahamas. These licenses require final approval from the Bahamian government to proceed and will expire if BPC does not commence drilling by the end of 2020.

Quick action is required to protect The Bahamas from a new offshore drilling industry.

Our Petition

Join us in convincing the Prime Minister of The Bahamas to cancel all existing oil drilling licenses.

We are at a pivotal point in Bahamian history. The Bahamas Petroleum Company (BPC) has announced its intention to begin offshore oil drilling in our pristine waters in a matter of months. Prime Minister Hubert Minnis has one last chance to protect our nation’s economy and precious natural resources from the devastating ravages of oil pollution before it is too late.

We ask you to join us in this urgent petition asking the Prime Minister to cancel all existing oil exploration licenses, reject all proposed renewals and impose a permanent ban on fossil fuel exploration anywhere within our maritime borders.
